Program & Services Overview
Riley Mother Baby Hospital of Kenya (RMBHK) provides a continuum
of care for pregnant women and their babies. Estimates are that
complications with pregnancy can affect up to 40% of women during
pregnancy, delivery or in the immediate period after a baby is
delivered. Up to 15% of women may have life threatening
complications.
The World Health Organization believes that sub-
Saharan Africa has the highest maternal death rate in the world at
920 deaths per 100,000 births. In developed countries, this ratio is
about 20 maternal deaths per 100,000 births. The data for newborn
deaths is equally alarming. Estimates range from 59.26 deaths/1,000
live births to 80 deaths/1,000 live births.
RMBHK’s mission is to provide comprehensive, family-focused services to mothers and babies and to address the root causes of poor outcomes through education, training, and research.
